|What is the WEE BOOKS Program?|
A Dawson County, entirely volunteer run, literacy program providing age appropriate books FREE each month for the under 5 age group.
Promotes reading readiness in pre-school age children with the participation of their parents or guardians
Wee Books is in its 5th year of operation
What does the WEE BOOKS Program do?
99% of funds raised go entirely to pay for age appropriate books purchased (at $3 a delivered book) from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and mailed (using the Ferst Foundation of GA) once a month to enrolled Dawson County children aged 0-5 years.
All children under the age of 5, living in Dawson County, are eligible to enroll. No means-testing.
A newsletter is included in each book with suggestions for the adult readers on how to use the story in the book, a fun activity page, plus other local community information (immunizations, Library events, children’s events etc.).
Wee Books volunteers enroll children through a variety of local groups and venues, such as: Kare for Kids; local Day-Cares and Pre-Schools, the Library and at local events and festivals as well as pre-school siblings of children already in the Dawson County School system.
Fundraising activities include soliciting donations from organizations, civic groups, businesses and individuals, as well as fundraising events, such as an annual Wee Books Barn Dance and “Leap for Literacy” (into Lake Lanier in February!)
